Baikal is a picturesque village in Northwestern Bulgaria, located on the banks of the Danube River. Here, a thousand-year-old history, unique nature and characteristic local culture come together. The people here welcome every guest of the village with open hearts and are quick to tell them about life by the great river and treat them to the most delicious fish soup.
You will visit the Orthodox Church of St. George, built in 1869, declared a cultural monument. The picturesque banks of the Danube River are home to many species of plants, amphibians and waterfowl, which you can observe with binoculars. Here is the mouth of the Iskar River, as well as the island of Malak Boril, declared a protected area in order to preserve the floodplain forests of white willow and white poplar.
The hospitable hosts from the Probuda – 1925 Community Center will tempt you with culinary delicacies from the Vlach cuisine. They will treat you to delicious seasonal dishes, including salted fish, baked carp with eggs, and carp with rice in a casserole.
For your special moments, the hosts can offer you a boat trip on the Danube River and a romantic picnic on Malak Boril Island, upon prior request and additional payment.
You will be able to purchase traditional Wallachian delicacies and winter meats, depending on the season. This way you will take home a delicious addition to the memory of your contact with the local culture of the village of Baikal.
